If you’re an entrepreneur whose job is to teach or share knowledge with others, whether you’re a coach, a writer or anything else, then you should make sure that it’s a topic that you’re genuinely passionate about.

This may seem obvious, because nobody would want to constantly talk about something that they’re not passionate about. However, you’d be surprised to learn that it happens more often than you might think.

For many new entrepreneurs, it’s a matter of money. If the person they’re learning from uses a specific niche as an example of how to make money, it’s tempting for them to want to follow in those exact footsteps, regardless of whether or not they have any interest in that niche topic.

Sometimes people might start teaching something just because they’re good at it and they know a good amount about it. Take social media marketing as an example. Someone may be very familiar with the ins and outs of marketing yourself through social media platforms, so they’d make a good coach to some extent, but they may not really be that passionate about it.

Having knowledge on something and being passionate about it are two different things. In order to have knowledge about something, which is important to being a teacher of any kind, you simply have to have put the time and effort into learning more about it.

This might take a bit of time, but it’s not impossible for anyone to do, and you could do that just fine over the period of a few months or up to even a few years of learning. However, this is not the same thing as passion.

If you are passionate about something, you are always going to be willing to be surrounded by talk about it, always wanting to learn more about it, and always willing to share your information about it.

Someone who knows a lot about social media marketing may not be interested in discussing it all the time, which would make them flawed as a coach and will take a toll on them if they consider teaching it as a career.

Just because you’re not passionate about something in the moment doesn’t mean that you’ll never be passionate about it. There are ways that you can become more passionate, mostly involving socializing with others in positive ways surrounding the topic at hand.

You may find that by making friends and forming bonds with people over the topic, you become knowledgeable about it and it may spark a passionate interest that you didn’t have previously.

It’s important for you to get more involved and become more passionate about the things that you teach. Otherwise, you’re going to get burnt out and annoyed by it over time, which can lead to you either upsetting some people you’re coaching or just mental strain for yourself. Passion helps eliminate these, as you won’t be so strained by having to discuss it.
