Prior to starting any exercise regimen, talk with your doctor. Women who are at a higher risk of miscarriage will not be permitted to do many kinds of exercises. Women who are having a healthy pregnancy will have some restrictions, but should be able to do many of the exercises during the first few months of pregnancy that they had done before. Your doctor will be able to tell you what to avoid and will give you a full exam before giving you the green light to begin your new exercise regimen.

The exercises that you should avoid include those that are jolting to your body and are very high impact. Bouncing around and putting your body through abuse while pregnant is not a very good idea. You could cause problems that you would not otherwise have had.

There are many different exercise classes specifically for pregnant women. You can find yoga, water aerobics, spin classes or even regular aerobics to take part in. You will learn how to safely exercise in each of these classes and do it with other women who are sharing your experience of pregnancy.

Get out and go for a walk. Walking is a great way to maintain a great level of fitness during pregnancy. It is said that walking can help to make delivery of the baby much easier for the mother. This is especially true during the last few months of pregnancy. Walking will help the baby drop into the position that she needs to be in to deliver quickly.

You are likely going to be very uncomfortable during your last trimester. Because of this, swimming might be a great option for you. The water will help you get that weightless feel as you work to stay fit. You can enjoy the relaxation of your muscles that the water will give you while accomplishing the day’s exercises at the same time.

Remember that your sense of balance is not going to be what it was prior to pregnancy. This is especially true during your last few months of the pregnancy. You must avoid any activities that require balance so you do not put yourself in the position in which you could fall and injure yourself or the baby.

If you have any discomforts during any of the exercises that you are doing, stop immediately. It could be your body or your baby trying to tell you something. If you experience contractions, stop, drink plenty of water and lie on your right side for an hour to see if they subside. If you are still experiencing pain, call your doctor and find out what you should do next.
